From a welding shop in Wilsonia to boundaries around East London
Thabo Sibanda welded gates for a steel shop in Wilsonia for nine years from 2001. When the shop closed in 2010 he went out on his own with the same trade and a bakkie, and has been fencing around East London since.
Most of the calls we get are not new fences. They are a fence somebody else put up two years ago that has started to lean. Nearly always the same two reasons: the posts were not set deep enough, or the panels went on before the concrete had cured. Both save an afternoon and cost the customer the whole fence.
We buy palisade and gates in from a manufacturer in Gqeberha rather than making them ourselves. That means seven to ten working days instead of the same week, and we would rather say so up front than promise a date we would miss. What we do ourselves is the installation, and that is the part that decides whether a fence lasts.
